Tea Sokha (Deputy Navy Commander) and local dive businesses worked together to try to create an artificial coral reef off the coast off Koh Rong Samloem. They sunk two large shipping containers to act as structures on which coral could grow.

Yon Min (Preah Sihanouk Provincial Governor) said that restoring marine life around the islands has been on the agenda for quite some time and that similar attempts were made in the past using segments of cement drainage pipes.
